FM Approvals | RESITRIX® MB and ALUTRIX® FR
January 2011
FM Global is the worldwide leader in certification and approval of roofing products and roof assemblies, offering industrial and commercial product certification and testing services. FM Global Group is also the largest international provider of commercial and industrial property insurance in the building industry.
In their dedicated testing institute and laboratories (FM Approvals), construction components and systems are carefully inspected under the most demanding test criteria to identify levels of potential risk when used in an application. The product Approval is based on performance testing of completed assemblies when subjected to multiple perils. As a result, FM Approvals certification assures customers that products have been extensively tested under real life test conditions and conform to the highest national and international standards. With these extensive procedures, FM Approval is setting new standards in terms of loss prevention and risk analysis, enabling manufacturers to improve and develop products into state-of-the-art technology.
PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH (PDT) are participating in these demanding tests to certify the quality and reliability of their products and to guarantee their customers the best possible solution of a flawless and secure roofing product and roof assemblies.
In the world’s largest test- institution of its kind in Rhode Island (USA) the EPDM waterproofing membrane RESITRIX® MB and the self-adhesive aluminium vapour barrier ALUTRIX® FR have been intensively tested with a variety of insulating materials in a mechanically fixed application.
RESITRIX® MB and ALUTRIX® FR passed the complex and demanding test conditions of FM Global and accordingly comply with all requirements of the Approval Standard Class No. 4470. A typical FM Approvals program includes fire testing above and below the deck, wind-uplift testing, hail-damageability testing, accelerated weathering testing, and corrosion resistance testing of ferrous metal components. The following list shows some of the tests involved in the Approvals programme:
| Calorimeter test Fire testing above and below the deck |
Objective Determination of total energy content in the roof construction |
| Fire behaviour and Flame propagation Fire testing external the deck |
Objective Determination of fire hazard and propagation on the roof |
| Wind-uplift test Resistance against lifting by wind forces |
Objective Identification of wind suction forces in the entire layer construction |
| Hail-damageability test Perforation of the membrane by simulated strong hailstorm |
Objective Resistance of the membrane to hailstorm after years of usage and excessive UV irradiation |
| Assessing the Resistance Test for assessing the resistance of the membrane to mechanical stress during installation and throughout the entire service life. |
|
| Evaluation of the Water Tightness Test for evaluation of the water tightness of the membrane, including overlaps, after extensive UV irradiation and through the external effect of air pressure and water. |
|
By the certification of both products in accordance with FM Global, PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH can assure their customers once more that they have chosen the best possible solution for every individual roof project – Whether roofer, architect, project planner or contractor, you are on the safe side.
